River Bugging

Uganda

Activity Description

Adrift are always looking for new adventures and experiences on the Nile river. River Bugs have been around for over a decade and have gained popularity in New Zealand, Europe, America and now for the first time, Africa!

To go ‘River Bugging’, is like no other experience. The Bugs are comfortable, safe and controllable, giving the user a thrill like no other.

What is a river bug?

The river bug is a small inflatable craft with an inflatable tube at each side of the user and an inflatable back rest behind. The user sits between the tubes and can be secured into the craft by means of a waist strap (optional). All users are provided with a pair of webbed gloves, fins for their feet and the usual safety gear.
Where can we River Bug?
When River Bugging on the Nile, we run a unique section of the river, just below Kalagala Falls. This allows us to train our groups in the river, before setting off to conquer some of the larger river features exclusive to this area.

No experience is required, and you decide your own level of fun!

River Bugging, rafting and any water activities on the Nile comprises of getting wet! Wearing adequate clothing for this and to also protect you from the sun is important. Draw string shorts help to keep your modesty intact if you have swim in the fast currents! Full piece bathing suits are the preferred choice for women as bikinis can become compromised when navigating the rapids. We suggest all our rafters to not wear shoes in the raft, as these can be lost in the water.
Wearing contact glasses should not stop you enjoying a rafting experience but be prepared they may become a part of the River Nile if you should enjoy a flip! We advise people (who wear contacts) not to sit near the front of the boat and to wear sunglasses but please note that you will need a tight strap and we do NOT provide these.

*Your travel insurance should specify cover for Whitewater rafting.
*Bring lots of sunscreen and keep applying this during the day!
*We recommend you take a small bag with a towel and a change of clothes for the end of the day, this will be kept on our vehicle and meet you at the finish point.

It is summer all year-round in Uganda. The country straddles the equator which means there is no winter and non summer and you can come at any time of the year. Temperatures in most parts of the country vary between 25°C and 30°C (77°F and 86°F) dropping only by 5°C overnight. Traditionally May and November are the wetter months in the country where morning cloud build – ups are followed by torrential rain and spectacular thunder and lightening shows. 99% of Ugandans do not own raincoats because the storms are usually short……………

We highly recommend booking in advance as Adrift trips often run to capacity. An advance booking will guarantee you a place on a bug!

Notes

No rafting or swimming experience is necessary (min age 13 years)
Rafting is an adventure sport so there is an inherent element of risk, however, we have spent over 30 years rafting rivers around the world minimising that risk. We could not have done better than nature in designing the perfect river for rafting. The Nile rapids are very big and extremely exciting but the volume of water in Nile means most rapids are very deep which minimises the chances of encounters with rocks or obstructions in the river. The rapids also dump into long, calm pools which means recovery after each rapid is easy.
